I thought I was done writing in the Pathfinder series, but here we are. I was having a conversation with someone recently about favorite villains we've written over the years. I mentioned that I really loved Timothy Ross, the charismatic and manipulative leader in the Mosaic cartel, and that I was disappointed I hadn't gotten the chance to explore his character more fully in the original Pathfinder novels. The comment was made that "Hey, why don't you write a spin-off story about him?", and this is the result.

I really love how the story turned out. It was interesting writing an entire novella from the POV of one of my villains. Ross is such a textbook sociopath, lol. I love him so much. ♥️

New Website Announcement

Hello, everyone! It's been a while since I was online. Things in RL have gotten a little overwhelming over this past year, and it's pulled me away from pursuing any kind of creative interests. It's been work related mainly, with a lot of new responsibilities and stresses that I had to learn how to deal with. On top of that I've been dealing with some lingering physical health issues, and some mental health issues, and just trying to make it from day to day.

By now I'm feeling like I've managed to get through the worst of it, and I'm feeling really positive and excited about getting back into my writing again and reconnecting with people.

During my time away, I managed to lose my previous website domain. So now I have an entirely new website URL:

I've finished moving everything over there, and now I'm going to start updating the links in all of my books. What a project that's going to be! But it has to get done, and I know I'll feel a lot better once I have everything in place with the new website links in place.

Finally!

I'm writing again! I can hardly believe it. I haven't written a new story in at least two years, and it has been incredibly painful not having that creative outlet to lean on. I think with the health problems I've had--the heart failure just over a year ago, then the scare with the uterine tumors and the surgeries and all of that madness--I just haven't had the mental fortitude for it. Plus I had to leave the job I've had for the past 17 years (and absolutely loved) because I can no longer do that kind of work with a diagnosis of chronic heart failure. Which means I've been sitting at a desk for the past year or so with a new work status of "permanent light duty", which I'm still trying to wrap my head around.

But I am writing again!!! I'm 38 pages into a new m/m romance novel, and it's zooming right along. It feels so GOOD to be creating new characters and new worlds like this. Kind of freeing, or maybe lightening is a better word. It feels like I'm where I need to be for a change.

All of this probably sounds a bit nonsensical, but I'm feeling happy and I just really wanted to share it with someone. I'll post more info about the novel as it gets closer to being finished. I'll be looking for beta readers if anyone's interested. :)

I just hit the go button on the audiobook for Entering the House of Silence. Now it's in the hands of the QA gods over at ACX, waiting on their approval. I'm still feeling blown away by how good it all turned out. I had this same sort of giddy feeling the first time I listened to Dan bringing my characters to life in Through the Last Door, like these characters that had until then existed only in my head are now out there for everyone to enjoy. It's an absolutely breathtaking feeling.

Oh, my dear god. I just finished reviewing the audio files for Entering the House of Silence, the 5-story prequel anthology set in the House of Silence universe, and I am still recovering from the experience. Dan Calley has completely outdone himself, with an absolutely gorgeous performance that had me literally on the edge of my seat as I was listening to it. There were parts where I couldn't breathe, and the world around me entirely ceased to exist. The man's voice goes from cute and sweet to hot and steamy to dark and edgy all in the blink of an eye, and he makes it all seem so effortless. I swear it has to be black magic of some kind, lol.

I am REALLY looking forward to sharing the audiobook for these stories with all of you. Whether they're your first introduction to the House of Silence characters or a side trip to spend some more time with them after you've experienced the other books in the series, it is going to blow you away. It certainly did for me.

I think I might have to go back and listen to it again. 😁 *swoon*

The audiobooks for books 1 and 2 in The House of Silence are completed and approved! Now it's just a matter of waiting for ACX to complete the QA process, and they'll be ready to go.

These books are a bit nontraditional in that they use sex as a means to tell the story, introducing the characters and their faults--and the growth they undergo throughout the course of the story--through various sexual encounters in addition to the more driving suspense/mystery-driven plot that carries the story forward. When I wrote the series, I wanted to try exploring a world with a kind of alternate sexual morality than our current one has, where sex is more common and shared freely among multiple partners:

Tam, a flamboyant son of aristocrats trying to make a name to set himself apart from the overbearing influence of his family.
Reiji, a penniless, hotheaded waif whose fey quality is matched by the cruelty he shows to allies and enemies alike.
Vincent, whose physical scars mask an even deeper wound, who has chosen to find transcendence through his suffering.
Danny, a winsome young beauty seeking to escape the violence of his past and somehow find the courage to forge a future worth living.
Ander, a grief-stricken lord desperate for any scrap of feeling to give his life meaning.
Aburon, whose true identity outside the walls of the House is a secret to all--or so he believes.
Brand, a dedicated officer of the law determined to bring the House to justice for its immoral activities... if only he can avoid falling prey to its allure.
Charon, the owner of the House, who rules his dominion with a firm hand but is loved dearly by those he has sold his soul to protect.

Dan Calley has done such an incredible job of bringing these characters to life, giving them unique personalities and personas through his performance. I really feel the emotion in it, the excitement, the tension in the more plot-driven parts of it. There's a sense of gravity to it, and a sense of fun in the lighter parts that I really appreciate. I'm super excited to share the finished product with all of you.

Book 3 is planned for audiobook production as well, but how soon that happens will depend on how well books 1 and 2 perform. If only I had an infinite amount of funds to spend on these projects! ^_^

Audiobook recording for The House of Silence series begins tomorrow! So far we've nailed down voices for over a dozen of the characters, and worked out pronunciations for various names and places. Dan is doing an absolutely amazing job capturing the characters with their unique personalities and speech patterns, and has been extremely patient with my requests for tweaks and changes as we go. ❤️

I absolutely adore Charon and his boys, and all of the various escapades (and sexcapades, heh) they get up to. I'm really looking forward to sharing the series in this new format, brought to life by Dan's incredible talent. It's so amazing to actually hear the voices of Reiji and Tam and Danny and dear, wounded Vincent. And Charon, of course, and Aburon and Ander and Brand and the rest..... I have so much love for this audiobook, and the first chapter hasn't even been recorded yet. 😄

Hi everyone. It's been a while since I've been online, and I apologize for that. It's been quite a wild ride these past few months. I was in the hospital at the end of last year with heart failure, and it turns out that it's a chronic condition now. My cardiologist says that my heart itself is healthy--I exercise, I eat well--and that it's likely a genetic condition. Like there's a gene in my DNA that decided this was the time to switch on and activate it. I'm on 5 new daily medications, which sucks, but it seems to be working. My latest EKG was very positive and shows that the tissue of my heart is healing from the incident that landed me in the hospital last year. As long as I continue with the medication and do what I can to minimize stress and eat well/exercise/etc., then I should be just fine and be able to go on with no real impact on my life and the way I normally live it. Which considering the alternative is really great news.

All of that has been bad enough to deal with, but I found out at the start of the year that I had about ten pounds of tumors growing on my uterus. How does that even happen without anyone noticing??? I was pretty sick for a while, even more so once I started undergoing treatment, but I had surgery at the start of the summer that appears to have been very successful. Tumors gone, uterus gone, about two and a half months off of work to recover, and now I'm finally beginning to feel like my old self again. I'm still highly anemic, but that seems to be the only lingering symptom my doctor is actively concerned about. And there are pills for that, so once again I feel like I dodged a major bullet.

So yeah. Not a big fan of 2022. But at the same time, I really can't complain because everything could have been so much worse. So in a weird way I also feel very lucky, and blessed, and very happy to be alive.

I hope you're all having a wonderful autumn and enjoying yourselves as the year is drawing to a close. I truly appreciate each and every one of you. ❤️

A New Book Trailer!

I've been in a bit of a creative slump recently because there have been a lot of things going on (our family cat died after 17 years, our house flooded and went through over three months of repairs, and I've been struggling with some health issues), but I'm starting to feel that spark of wanting to create something new once again.

So I pulled out my trusty video editor the other day and started playing around with the idea of creating a book trailer for my sci-fi noncon novel Pathfinder, and this is what I came up with. It's a little gritty, a little racy, and I think it captures the atmosphere of the novel really well. I think the music works well, and it features some clips from the audiobook that was narrated by the devilishly talented Dan Calley. I really love how it turned out. ❤️

YouTube flagged it as 18+, so you have to go to their site to watch it while you're logged in to prove you're an adult. I'm not sure if that might intrigue readers into clicking or make them not want to bother, but it is what it is.

Dancing the Knife's Edge, the final book in the Sacred Guardian m/m fantasy series, is just about live! I can hardly believe it. Just a few more days and it'll be out there in the world for all of you to read. I'm excited and nervous about it all at the same time. I'm absolutely in love with it, but I can't help feeling a bit anxious all the same.

Dan Calley will be narrating the audiobook for this latest addition to the series as well. He's planning to start recording early next week. So exciting!!!
